Lynsay Sands' latest release, The Hellion and the Highlander is a beautifully written historical novel that will have you glued to the pages until the very end. Only one man could set her heart ablaze . . . Lady Averill Mortagne learned to control her fierce temper as a young girl. But if her father insists on parading her before one more English lord who looks askance at her flame-colored hair, she'll simply scream! Her only respite is the time she spends with Kade Stewart, the wounded Scot her brother br

This is the second book in the Astropolis series and I would strongly recommend starting with the first book before reading this one. It is an epic soap opera military science fiction story that has a lot of twists. A lot happens in a short time. It is very action packed and delves into deep themes dealing with humanity, politics, and morality. While there were many things to enjoy in this book, I had some problems with it. I struggled with this book as I found the writing to be a bit too “flowery&rd

Seduced by a Rogue is Amanda Scott’s second book in a trilogy of books that take place in the fourteenth century Scotland. Based on true events and real characters, the author has spun a historically based romance that is easy to believe really could have occurred. Lady Mairi Dunwythie is the current heiress to her father’s estates unless her father and her stepmother are able to produce a male heir.  Her father has been teaching her the requirements of being a baroness in case a male

Tielle St. Clare's latest release, Taking Shape, is a fascinating short paranormal romance that will reach out and grab readers right from the very beginning. As a shapeshifter, Nick Conner can turn into anything or anyone he touches. Along with his brothers and sister, he uses this unique gift for private investigations. But something about their newest case doesn’t sit right. Their client isn’t being honest and their target, Tally, seems way too sweet to be a crook. Or maybe it’s just t

The Battle Sylph is the debut novel by L.J. McDonald. This is one of those books that you read expecting one thing and get something else entirely. It is a great blend of fantasy with a tinge of romance. The romance doesn’t overly dominate the book and this is the beginning of a series. The idea of using sylphs as the author does is definitely unique and interesting. Sylphs are like magical manifestations. This title also touches on some issues dealing with the right to enslave another. I am looking f

Wicked Fairy Stepmother is a contemporary young adult novel filled with teenage angst, mystery and intrigue with an added touch of the paranormal.  It’s a cross between R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" and the BBC's "The Sarah Jane Adventures". I would highly recommend this novel for parents searching for suitable young adult fiction. While I normally do not read a large number of Young Adult Fiction, I will admit that "My Fairy Stepmother" was an engaging novel that showc

Wolf’s Valentine is a werewolf paranormal novella filled with conspiracy, danger and romance.  While the novel can be read as a standalone piece; small references to past experiences and events will pique one’s curiosity enough to prompt a search for earlier works in the Westervelt series. The main theme of the novel is based on its title “Valentine’s Day”, yet the holiday for lovers is not the driving force, it is rather a mechanism that has been incorporated into t

Except the Queen by Jane Yolen and Midori Snyder is a book that is considered YA fantasy, but is just as enjoyable for adults. This is one of those books that takes a typical stereotype and twists it. Instead of a human becoming lost in the fairy land, we have two sisters who have exiled themselves into the modern world of humans. The sisters must navigate through a world that is very different from their own and just as dangerous. They are without any of their magic while defeating a danger to both worlds.

Wow. This story puts Violet Glaze squarely on my list of authors to watch for. I'm definitely waiting with bated breath for the next story, and hopefully it will be as amazing as this was.  I really enjoyed the setting. Glaze really brings the world she's describing to life and one can even imagine that you're there, with Miyako, as she moves from the life she was in before the new life in Hotel Butterfly.  To a certain extent I wish that the Hotel itself was a bit better explained and more back

I always find anthologies pretty hard to rate, and this one is no exception. I did enjoy most of the stories, although some much more than the others. A Hallowed Tale was a fun spin-off from the classic "A Christmas Carol" and I really loved how sweet it was. The sex actually almost felt like it was tacked on and it didn't seem like it made quite that much sense in the context, but it wasn't grating. I would have liked the romantic relationship to have been developed just a bit more with more of

One of my main complaints after reading the first book in the Maldito Series, Emmy's Song, was that character development in general and Emmy and Cale's relationship in particular was rushed and not well fleshed out.  In the second book, Emmy's Heart, we get all of that and then some. For Emmy a lot happened in a relatively short period of time in the first book; a new boy moved to the area, her best friend was killed and vampires turned out to be real.  Not only that but she was the cure for the
